Medical Education

In addition to providing primary health care services, The Center for Haitian Studies, Health and Human Services (CHS) provides health education, research, community outreach services and medical education to medical students enrolled in local, national and international medical schools. From time to time, CHS participates in community activities which include crime prevention, literacy, case management, cultural projects, counseling and referral services for new immigrants who arrived in South Florida in the aftermath of the January 12, 2010 earthquake.

In collaboration with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, CHS currently conducts research on cervical cancer and breast cancer among women living in Little Haiti/Little River. The research:

1 - examines risk factors for breast cancer and cervical cancer among Haitian women living in Miami, and,
2 - identifies barriers to prevention and early detection of cancer among these women.
